Nearly 40 years ago, the Alliance for Positive Health began providing resources and support to individuals living with HIV/AIDS. At the time we were in uncharted territory, unsure of how the future would look and what needs would arise.
Today, we are still providing support to these individuals. But the face of their needs has changed and evolved as they are living long lives.
With these longer lives comes chronic conditions like cardiovascular disease, lung disease, and obesity, but HIV can bring additional complexities and earlier onset. There is also the layer of stigma, which can bring isolation and sometimes delay or entirely prevent engagement in HIV care.
The epidemic is still here.
The need is still real.
